Miss Elder and Hnldeman wore boisterously welcomed at l.e P.ourget on arrival from Bayonne. AIR FORCE. HUNDREDS OF APPLICANTS. WELLINGTON. Oct. 28. In reply to an inquiry concerning the response that was being made to the call for recruits for the New Zealand Air Force, the Minister of Defence (the Hon F. J. Rolleston) stated that several hundreds of applications had already come to hand, hut there appeared to he a misunderstanding of the position on the part of some of the applicants, who seemed to be under the impression that employment was of a permanent nature The Minister emphasised the fact that this was not so, as the enrolment proposed was to he in the New Zealand Air Force, which was a Territornl air force, and not to be confused with the Now Zealand Permanent Air Force. The position was .briefly that the ten trainless proposed to he selected would be required to undergo a twelve-weeks course of instruction during the present financial year (1927-2 S), and after completion of that course they would leave the Wigrnm Aerodrome and follow their normal civil avocations until November, ID2B. when a similar course of twelve weeks would he carried out. After the completion of these two courses trainees who graduated would he posted as second-lieutentant.s to the Territorial Air Force, otherwise known as the New Zealand Air Force, and would annually attend camp for refresher training for a period of approximately ten days during the succeeding five years. Training and graduates would he paid only for the time they actually wore in attendance in the country.
