The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved, after ■Mr lleenan had questioned the reference to limitation of motor boats on Lake Kanieri in a letter to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Dr Teiciielmann and the chairman had explained the action taken. Accounts amounting to £336 11s 2d were passed for payment. REPORTS. The Treasurer reported:—Receipts 61371 10s lOd. payments £336 11s 2d. credit balance £1632 10s 3d, loan account credit £OO 16s. —Received. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The Committee submitted estimates for works recommended at last meeting as follows : Drain from Healey Street to Mr Duff’s residence—£2l 12s.—Work agreed to. Footpath. Davie Street, between Stafford and Hampden Streets, 6 chains—6l6 3s Id.—Agreed to. Grading bill from Mr Murdoch's residence towards Stafford Street—£7 6s Sd.—Agreed to. Estimated cost of culvert in Stafford Street near Mi- Caliari’s residence—£29 Is Bd.—Agreed to. The body of the Borough dray requires to be renewed.—Received and referred to Messrs Armstrong and Jeffries with power to act. Tiie Town Clerk submitted a report on expenditure for the half year.—Received. The report of the Reserves Committee recommending remission of rates in four instances was agreed to. In connection with the repairs to the water service, the Hume Pipe Coy’s representative notified he would be visiting Hokitika on Monday and the Waterworks Committee were deputed to meet and confer with him. M r. Evans suggested in view of the summer time coming into force that the Council during the summer meet for Finance at 7.30 and the ordinary meeting at 8 p.m. A discussion took place as to the

unsightly condition of the rubbish dumped in all directions on the beach, and it was resolved the Town Clerk take necessary action to prevent it in future. The annual inspection by the Borough Inspector of the town was ordered, with particular care to be given to leaking taps, and other matters. On the motion of Mr King, it was decided to commence the annual cleanup of the streets earlier than usual this year. The Town Clerk reported that Mr D. Stevenson had submitted the price of £32 6s for shuttering and rendering bird proof the pavilion on Cass Square and 62 10s for other necessary repairs. The offer was accepted, and the work authorised. It was resolved that the Foreman submit specifications for the painting of the pavilion and the hot-water house. The Council rose at 8.30 p.m.
