Profound disappointment was felt » 70S people who had taken their seals in a special excursion to the A\ es Coast this morning, when a railway official walked along the carnages announcing the train had boon cancelled ATr H C. Lusty, who is in charge of the repair work at Cora Lynn washout, was in touch with the local railway office at 9 last night. He said then the Bealev River was rising, and it was raining heavily. If the rain continued all night the line would be unsafe in the morning, but he advised them to go ahead with the arrange-
ments. This was done, hut a message from Lusty this morning caused the train to he cancelled.
A sneeial train from Ashburton to Otira Was actually on the way when the message came stopping it. AYord was received here from Otira to the effect that there was weather there.
A meeting of the West Coasters’ Association will lie held and probably the excursion will he postponed for a week and the Point Elizabeth Coalyards’ Excursion will he altered to April 9th. The weather is perfect in Christchurch this morning.
