PARLIAMENT
(BY TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON. August 27. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Council agreed with the amendments proposed by the Governor-Gen-eral in Oil in Territorial Waters Act. The Government Railways Act. National Provident Fund Act. Veterinary Surgeons Bill. Lights on Vehicles Amendment Bill, Land Laws Amendment Bill and Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill were received from the House and read a first time.
University Amendment Bill was reported from the Statute Revision Committee without amendment. Dairy Industry Amendment and Mining Bill were put through the final stages and passed without amendment. In Committee on the Local Government Loans Board Bill, Sir H. Rhodes introduced amendments, the chief of which provides that in the event of the Board declining to sanction Hie application of a local authority to borrow, the application may not lie renewed within a period of twelve months, unless in the meantime, there has been a material change of circumstances affecting the loan proposals. The Bill as amended was passed.
The Council rose at 3.31) until Tuesday. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. By Governor-General’s message the Agricultural College Bill was introduced and read a first time Mr I). Jones (Ellesmere) chairman of the special committee appointed to inquire into the recommendations of the Royal Commission on rural credits, brought clown tile report of the committee and a debate on the question of rural credits was cun tinned until 12.20 a.m. when the report was laid on the table. The Finance Bill authorising a loan of five millions was introduced and read a first time. Marriage Amendment Bill and Electrical Wiremen’s Registration Amendment Bill were put through the final stages and passed. The House rose at .12.55 till 10.30 a.in.
