COAL DISASTER. NEW YORK, Aug. 2G. Alcssages from Indiana, in Pennsylvania, report that an explosion occurred in a coal mine in an isolated region, nine miles from the town of Indiana, entombing -15 men. Rescue crews to-day entered the mine, braving deadly gases, and they succeeded ill bringing out five unconscious and three dead ones. DEATH ROLL Rj. VANCOUVER, Aug. 20.
A message from Clymcr, Pennsylvania. states that forty-six miners are believed to have been killed in the mine explosion. Four escaped alive. All hope of the others has been abandoned. ' DISASTER IN LO[MSIANA. VANCOUVER. Aug. 2G. A telegram from New Orleans
states: “Damage to crops and buildings in excess of a million dollars, and two deaths, were the toll of a storm which swept the Eastern Louisiana Coast, up the Alississippi, from the Gulf, on Wednesday evening. Tt was only learned on Thursday. Reports were delayed owing to the crippled wire service. The packet steamer Terrebonne, loaded with rice, sank in the .Mississippi near Donaldson, Her crew of forty reached the shore. STORM DEATHS. VANCOUVER, August 28. A telegram from New Orleans states the storm toll is five dead and several missing. The damage amounts to from five, to ten millions. CANADIAN RAILWAYS. OTTAWA, August 27. An increase of 11.809,700 dollars or 299.15 per cent nett earnings lor the first seven months of 192 G, compared with the same period last year is shown ill the, financial statement of the Canadian National Railways, issued today.
