- 7 [uT TELKGRAPIT —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.} INDECENT ASSAULT. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 27. Janies Callaghan, who was found guilty on a charge of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 10. at W :, 'irio in June last, appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court to-day. Mr Justice Sim, in passing sentence, said that the prisoner did not deserve much consideration, and instead of going into the box and living evidence, ho should have pleaded guilty. In view of the fact that the jury did not find the prisoner guilty of more setious offence of attempted carnal knowledge, with which he was also charged. His Honour said he would take a more ilcnient view of the matter and mfl.ct a fine of £3O.
PRISONERS SENTENCED. WELLINGTON. Aug. 27. At the' Suprtme Court, the following prisoners were sentenced:— David Parkinson, labourer, aged Is, housebreaking at Petone, six charges, and attempt to break in by day, two years’ at the Borstal Institute. David Cameron Stewar, grocer, _b, breaking and entering and theft, ten charges, four years’ hard labour, ioncurrent. , T George Alexander Robert Irving, labourer, 26, forgery and attempted uttering, two years’ imprisonment.
