BOY SCOUTS

((’ontributed.) The quarterly meeting of the Committee and parents of the Second Hokitika Troop and Rack will be held on Tuesday, July 11th, at 8 o’clock in the evening and it is hoped that as many as possible of those interested will attend. Apart from the parents of the boys and those connected with social or educational work the character training of its future citizens should be a concern of the town as a whole, and a larger number of business people and representatives of other local interests might very well put In nu evening once a quarter by getting into touch with what is being done or should he done in the local troops. For example the nine boys chosen to attend the Jamboree at Dunedin will there mix with the scouts of New Zealand and Australia a representative of Hokitika and it is to an extent everybody’s concern that they do so ns worthily as possible. As a matter of fact, so partial has boon the attendance of even the parents of those boys in the local troops that after the parly bad been chosen some were round to declare that they bad not understood the inniter was one for lirgenl decision and that they would have done everything possible to have their sons included. On this account a little more time lias been allowed by the authorities at Dunedin and it is still not 100 late by attending the meeting in question to have one or two further names considered. The Second Troop had seven of their number under canvas at- South Spit l-is| Friday and Saturday night, and a fair amount of useful work was accomplisheil, including the first openair rehearsals for the display which they plan to give in the Dunedin Exhibition Stadium.
