MONDAY, AUGUST 8

The Board met at 8.15 p.m. Present —J. J. Breeze (Chairman), H. Monk, G. Davidson, L. H. Morel, J. Ritchie, IV. 11. Burrell. An apology was made for the absence of Mr Blank. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. PRESENTATION TO n R TEICHEL-

MANN. Before the Board commenced the ordinary business a presentation was made to Dr Teielielmann, until recently Medical Superintendent of Westland Hospital. Matron Little and a number of gentlemen were present by invitation. The Chairman (Mr 7 liree/.e) -said lie had a very pleasant duty to make, that of a presentation to Dr Teiebclmnnn in appreciation of his valued services to Westland Hospital. Dr, Teiclielmaim had been always actuated by a stiict sense ol duty and had proved a valued nu-mher ot the community. Williams said he was glad • o do present to honor Dr Teielielmann who richly deserved the compliment being paiii him that evening. He was me who had every opportunity to know ilie intrinsic worth of his services to the district. They all knew his professional worth, and it was not necessary to refer to that. During his connection with \Yestluml Hospital, Di Teielielmann was lortunale in being associated with excellent matrons and 1.0 their assistance they were also much indebted. It was extremely pleasing ~, know that during his term the conduct of the hospital has never been questioned. He was glad to know that his successor Dr Baird was also giving ■ very satisfaction, ami he trusted that they would have both Dr Baird and i),- Teielielmann for many years in the district. Air 1). J. Evans was glad to join in the words of congratulation. Ho had very early recollections of the appointment of Dr. Teichelmann. Ho would like to pay a tribute lo Dr. Teicheliiurnn of the very valuable services to the town and district- As a citizen he had given very valuable services, and had been an able member of the Borough Council for years. He had also done a great deal of work on the Acclimatisation .Society. Ilia name would always he associated with Westland by his feat of climbing Mount Cook. He was glad to find he was settled again in the town, and he hoped he would long remain. Dr Mandl said it was a great pleasure to he present. The people of Hokitika could consider themselves as very lucky in having had the services of such a distinguished medical officer for such a long period. He recognised the very valuable services he had rendered dur. nig his long stay. Dr. Baird said he had great diffidence in taking over duties from Dr. Teichelmann, whom he recognised as a very able man, who had won warm appreciation for his services. Wherever you go Dr. Teichelmann is spoken of with the greatest admiration. His (dealings with him had been most bar-;

monious. If he could do anything to entice him to stay here he would do it gladly as a colleague. Dr. Buchanan said though he had only known Dr Teichelmann for about six months he looked on him already as an old friend, but his name was honoured all through New Zealand. He felt they could compliment them selves on having him in the town, and he trusted lie would long stay among them. The chairman said he was glad to have heard the views of those present "which he heartily endorsed. Cheers for Dr Teichelmann and for Matron Little (who was present) concluded an interesting ceremony. VOTE OF CONDOLENCE. The chairman moved that- a letter o! sympathy be forwarded to the family of the late Joseph Mandl, an old and valued member o-f the Board, conveying the deep sympathy of the members in the loss they sustained. The chairman stated Mr Mandl had joined the Hospital Trustees in 1885, ami Imd served on it for many years. Seconded by Air Davidson, and carried in silence. Inward correspondence. From H. C. J.
