TYPHUS QUARANT INE.

NEW YORK, Feb. 16. The time of the passage between Britain and the United States would be doubled by the quarantine orders proposed by the Federal authorities tins morning as llie result ol an outbieak of typhus among immigrants, which shows signs of spreading ashore. The proposed order lays down that a period of 12 days must elapse from the time a ship leaves a European port before passengers may land in the United States, which means that the Cunard, White Star, and other great ships would have to lie at anchor from 5 to G days after reaching New York before passengers could discmbaik. The precautionary measures as regards incoming ships would apply to all passengers, including those in the Ist cabin, who have to submit to examination and fumigation before being permitted to land. To deal with suspected cases, a large American liner, equipped with 1,000 rots and a staff of doctors and nurses, would be anchored at quarantine. Two deaths from typhus occurred m New York yesterday, the first for 2!) years.
