[per press association.- copyright.] NAURU PHOSPHATES. March 31. It is now intended by the three Governments concerned, namely, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand, to take over not only the island of Nauru, but also the Pacific Phosphate Company’s interest in Ocean Island. This means that the company’s business at the two islands mentioned, together with the whole of the plant and machinery, will be taken over as a going concern. It is hoped that the transfer will take place about the Ist July next. The arrangements, when completed, will ensure phosphates to New r ~ * - producers for centuries to come.

THE WEBBY TRAGEDY. PALMERSTON NORTH, March 31 At the adjourned inquest concerning the death of May Etlieline Webby, who was found with her throat cut on March 18th last, the Jury returned a verdict as follows : “That the deceased was murdered, oy having her throat cut by some person, or persons, unknown, on the evening of March 17th at Palmerston North. PQNSONBY MURDER. AUCKLAND, March 31. The young man Dennis Gunn, was charged with the murder of A. E. Braithwaite, at the Police Court to-day but was remanded for another week.

MOTOR CYCLING FATALITY. AUCKLAND, March 31. Air inquest was hid on Davis Peter Finn, who died trom injuries received while motor-cycle racing on Monday. Evidence was given that the track was not specially prepa ;ed, but was in good order. Coroner Wilson, S.M., said this was the second which he had held on men killed while motor-cycle racing. Percy Coleman one of the competitors in the race with deceased, was a witness. He said he overhauled deceased and brushed the latter’s arm. This caused Finn’s cycle to skid. Witness was travelling about SO miles an hour, and deceased about CO miles. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the evidence. He commented on the exceedingly character of this sport, and added: “I cannot stop you yet. I have no power to do so, but if this kind of thing continues,- someone will have to stop you.”
