DECLARED OFF. WORK RESUMING ON MONDAY. Yesterday afternoon there was a well attended meeting at Rimanga of the State coal miners, for the purpose of considering the position as to the strike. The question of the continuance of the strike was submitted to a vote •’f those present, with the result- that, by a majority of nearly three to one it was decided to terminate the strike forthwith, and to resume work at the mines on Monday morning. Majority 74 In regard to tlie several issues involved in the strike, it is understood that of tlie three demands of the State Miners’ Union, two met with the support unanimously of the other miners’ unions, namely as to a 20 per cent increase, and as to the location of the weighbridge The third issue, however regarding the levy was a matter of disagreement none of the jrther union’s voting to support the State Minors’ Union is enforcing the levy. The Paparoa strike of course, still continues, until the Directors disclose their attitude towards the compromise formulated by the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr HaggaT.

WELLINGTN April 5. The Hon. Mr. Massey received the following telegram from officials of the Union in connection with the strike: “The State Mine dispute is settled the men resuming wrk on Monday.’’ “The Paparoa dispute was thoroughly investigated yesterday by the Commissioner and the Federation represents lives. Your Commissioner has forwarded certain proposals to the directors and yourself which we endorse. The extension of the time is necessary to get their decision.” The telegram is signed by Messrs Coppersmith and Semple. V
