HEAVY GERMAN ATTACK. CAPTURE 1 THREE VILLAGES. {Received this day at 12.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. A French communique says' hitherto we have identified eleven enemy divisions. The Germans notwithstanding that their efforts were ten times repeated, only succeeded at. last after sanguinary sacrifices in gaining some hundreds of yards of ground and capturing the villages of Mailby, Rainoval and Mopsel, whose adjacent heights we hold. Gri•vesnes was attacked with special fury, hut was retained by the French, who shattered all assaults and then counter attacked and made progress at this point.. The artillerying was most active between Mont Didier and Lassigny.
RAIN FALLS STEADILY. INTERRUPTS OPERATIONS. LONDON April 4. British headquarters report that rain continued to fall steadily and the ground is mushy. This affects the Germans more than the Allies because they are moving across the Jiattle pounded country, which is honey-comb ed with shell craters brimful of water, while our communications are untouched.
