FIGHTING IN PROGRESS

PEKIN, July a.

Chang Shun’s Royalist troops. are fighting a large force bf Republicans 35 miles from Pekin. It is feared that Chang Shun’s position is hopeless. His troops have tom up the railway at Lang Sang midway between Tientsin and Pekin.

It is understood that foreign Powers are sending detachments to restore the railway communication. British French, Japanese and American troops are proceeding to Pekin to reinforce the Legation guards.
