MATCHES IN AUSTRALIA.

QUEENSLAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES.

iV CABLB—PEESS ASSOCIATION—OOPVRTOHT SYDNEY, Jan. 2. The match between New South Wales and Queensland was concluded in fine weather and on a good wicket. Queensland in their second innings scored 285 (Thompson 134, Benstead 54, R. K. Oxenham 38). Wall took four wickets for 67, and Thatcher three for 76. New South Wales in their second innings lost one wicket for 25. When play commenced it looked as if Queensland would be dismissed cheaply, five wickets being down for 66, but Thompson's splendid innings, particularly in partnership with Benstead, shattered the home team's hopes of victory. Thompson compiled his score by powerful driving and pretty leg strokes. Benstead also batted enterprisingly. Thompson was at the wickets for 224 minutes, and hit thirteen fours and one five. He gave two chances. The match was drawn.
