. . i TAIHAPE, Jan. 3. An accident occurred on Turakina Valley Road on AVednesday night hv which a fifteen months old child was so severely injured that it died shortly afterwards. Richard Hammond, a farmer, when driving home with his wife and two children, got out of the gig to hold the horse's head while a flock bf sheep passed. The horse got out of control and plunged over a steep bank into the river below. Hammond snatched the elder child, but the mother and infant went down with the gig. The horse was killed. The severity of Mrs. Hammond's injuries is not yet known.
