A PROFESSOR ASSAULTED.

He was driving ainotor car at the time. His assailants, after beating him unconscious; escaped. A few! weeks ago the professor accepted an invitation to the war memorial ceremony at Salerno. He received a warnings that Fascists intended to punish him for his hostility. The Government in order, to prevent violence, kept the professor in his house till the ceremony was over. The professor indignantiv protested to Signor Mussolini and the press. It is assumed that this led to the present assault, though some Fascists repudiate responsibility for it An inquiry has been promised.—Aus -N Z Cable Assn " ' •
