A FINE JERSEY HERD IN VICTORIA.
In the catalogue recently received' of' the sale of the famous "Melrose'' herd of Jerseys in Victoria, it is interesting to note that the leading strains on the sires' side from which the herd has been raised are Noble of Oaklands, Golden Fern's Noble. Golden Fern's- Viscomnt, Carnation's Fox, Fox's Nonpareil. The herd had a great record since 1915, when founded, as the figures quoted will show. These are in the competition in Government tested lkerds of all breeds, and show that in 1915 61 were milked, an average production of 337.74 lbs, fifth in competition; 1916, 51, 403.05 lbs, first; 1917, 58/395 lbs, second; 1918, 84; 41G lbs,, first; 1919, 54, 418 lbs, second; 1920, 34, 427 lbs. third; 1921, 47, 408 lbs, fourth; 1922, 36, 411 lbs, fourth; 1923, 44, 401 lbs, fourth. At the sale 101 lots were submitted, and the average price received was 70gtts. The best price was 185 gns and seventeen secured over 100 gns. The tofal was 7120gns.
