WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. The raew rates of postage to operate from October 1 were announced to-day by the Hon. J. G. Coates (PostmasterGeneral).. The present rates and the new rates are: —
Inland letters. —Present rates : l£d first 2oz. or fraction and Id each additional 207.. or fraction. New rates: Id first ounce- or fraction and £d each additional ounce or fraction.
Letters within the British Empire to certain foreign countries.—Present: ljd first ounce or fraction and Id each additional ounce or fraction. New: Id for each ounce or fraction.
Postcards, inland. —Present: Single Id, reply 2d. New: Single £d, reply Id. . •
Packets (inland), comprising commercial papers, books and printed papers, etc.—Present: Id first 2oz. or fraction over, 2oz:, but not exceeding 4bz. l£d, and IJd for each additional 4oz. or fraction up/to lib. 2d for each additional pound up to 51bs. New: £d for each 2oz. or fraction, up to 21b, 2d for each additional pound or fraction up to 51b. Magazines, registered inland.—Present: Each copy not exceeding Boz. 2d, ench additional Boz. or fraction Id. New: Each copy not exceeding Boz. Id, each additional Boz. or fraction Id. The Minister stated the total reductions wouldi mean a loss of revenue of £250,000..
