ASSESSMENT COURT ORDERED

WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. The Prime Minister was recently asked by Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki) whether a decision has yet been reached regarding-%he request made by the ratepayers of Taranaki County that a percentage reduction in recent valuation be made throughout the whole of the county.

Mr. Massey has replied: "As the executive of the Taranaki Ratepayers' Association has pressed for a reduction in. values so greatly in excess of the limits to which the Department after careful consideration is prepared to reduce values, an Assessment Court is being set up as provided under Section 13 of the Valuation of Land Act, .1908, to hear and determine objections to the ■values-" . .'*.'- '■ ■ ,-;.'... .3
