, ELTHAM COUNTY COUNCILLORS' TRIBUTES

At the monthly meeting of the Eltham County Council, held on Saturday, Cr. McGuinness, in referring to the i good work dene by the retiring engineer, Mr. M. E. FitzGerald, wished that gentleman every success in his new sphere. Cr. McWilliam said it was a matter |of great regret that Mr. FitzGerald : had seen fit to leave the service of the council. But for he and Mr. Hawken 1 and«*the Public Works officials he did : not know how the Omona riding would .have fared. It was' the Public Works Engineer who had said: "One thing, . you have got a live engineer." Cr. | McWilliam also mentioned that Mr. j FitzGerald had told him that they j had a splendid man in the new engineer IMr Muggeridse. , i Cr. Messana said that a ratepayer from Mata Mata had been visiting him. and he (Cr. Messana) had told him that, the Mata Mata County Council | was getting a very capa bi e man !Cr Campbell congratulated Mr ! FitzGerald on his appointment to Mata Mata. He was leaving a county that .had been made and was going to another in order to make it. ! At- this stage the engineer said it seemed that all the councillors were I going to get up and say nice things about him. However, he wished to thank them for their remarks i The clerk was then instructed to giv© Mr. FitzGerald a testimonial from the counciL ; . Or. Gifford said he did not wish to allow the opportunity to slip of wishing Mr. FitzGerald every success in his n«w work. He had found Mr. FitzGerald a very .straightforward employee of the osuflcil.
