TO RE-ESTABLISH PRODUCTIVITY
STAND BY LABOUR. UNIONS
Received Aug. 5, 9.5 a.m. PARIS, Aug. 4. Le Matin understands that the French representatives in Dusseldorf have been authorised' to listen to the proposals of the Rhine industrialists and to study the possibility of a new regime, with a view to re-establishing productivity.
BERLIN, Aug. 4. The Ijokal Anzeiger states that labour unions in the Ruhr have unanimously resolved not to drop passive resistance, even if England makes it an indispensable condition or the German Government orders cessation.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assiv.
LONDON, Aug. 3.
The Daily Telegraph's diplomatic correspondent hints that.Cabinet will meet next week to draft a;.-reply to the Allies' communications. It is believed that the reply will embrace new suggestions. which will constitute a. last attempt at united action by the Allies, and to which a definite answer will be. required one way or the other. It is intended to clinch the matetr of whether interAllied agreement is possible or not. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asßn.
BRUSSELS, Aug. 3
The Goveraniewt will probably publi«k its note to M. Briaiad simultaneously in London, Paris, and Brussels, but the date has not been fixed. The Belgian Government deprecates the pub licatiou at present, but does not see the actual convenience from its own viewpoint, because it considers that negotiations are still possible and will pursue efforts to arrive at an agreement.— Aus.-N.Z. A Berlin correspondent says that to the Germans who eagerly anticipated that Mr Baldwin would dramatically announce the end of the Entente, the' statement in the House of Comimons ««i^es as a cold doufehe. Two points are specially disagreeable to Germany They are Mr Baldwin's reference to passive resistance and financial cSiitrol. Berlin newspapers insist that no German Govrnment could suggest to the people of the Ruhr that they abandon passive reslsta-nee, but on, the question of financial control the newspapers, while not liking the idea, suggest that the Government might accept some form of control as long as it did not conflict with tne sovereign rights.
