INFLUENZA

I CASES IN WELLINGTON. (BY TELEGHAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONJ WELLINGTON, July 20. Medical men her© state that the present epidemic seems rather to be in tb» nature of seasonal influenza, which i» common experience in so many cowntries, and which at present is prevalent also in Australia. Wellington, remarked one doctor to-day, is fortunate compared with other centres, but even. in the South Island the epidemic is not so severe as it was in 1920. The we*- v ther conditions throughout the Domin— ion, but more especially in the south, have been such as to aggravate the trouble and foster the spread of the disease. At present in Wellington influenza, and colds are prevalent a great deal in. the home and in the street, -while & number of persons have left their offices and the attendance at schools 'has been much lower than usual. Ther cleansing and fumigation has been carried out. Medical men assert, however, that in many cases people who> are said to have influenza have onljp ordinary colds and otter complaints? masquerading under the term influenza. In proof of the mild natnr* here of the epidemic it need only be pointed out that there has been only one death frosa pneumonic influenaa and tw© from pneumonia in the -whole ;of this healtE district during the past ! four weeks. The health district ia— | eludes Palmerston North, Wairarapa» Wairau. Picton and Nelson, in addit»ort.\ to Wellington City and suburbs. - *
