Ihe annual report of the Hawera Dairy Company, to be presented to the annual meeting on Monday, states: The season from a production point of view has been a good one. and the butter-rat supplied to the ' company shows an increase over last season of 8^ per cent. At this time last year an endeavour was made to improve the shipping and marketing methods in connection with dairy produce, and since then discussions have taken place on the proposed Dairy Contrel Bill all over the country. Last season's estimate of pay-out was Is gad per Jb but-ter-fat, and it is pleasing to record that this estimate was exceeded, th« final payment for the 1921-22 season being Is 4 l-10d per lb butter-fat, which is believed to be a record for the season in this district fqr a consigning factory. This season cheese imsokl amounting to 2022 crates has been estimated to realise 7£d per lb f.0.b., and butter unsold amounting to 4932 boxes to realise Is 2d per lb f.o.b. On the basis of these estimates, payment for the season per lb butter-fat "should be J uiy to Uccober Is 7id, November to March Is Bd, April to June Is ' 6d, which is equal to Is 7£d over the whoJe season. Interest on shares has been allowed for absorbing £926 19s lid, also" the levy under Article 23 of th» company's articles of association, which amounted to £2170. The retiring directors are: Messrs, J. R. Corrigan, J. B Laurenson, W. Reid, and A. B. Robertson. The retiring directors after thornselves for re-election, with the exception of Mr. J. B. Laurenson, who j*t not farming .this season, and who ,:s therefore not eligible. Mr.; Laurensou has rendered valuable service, to the company whilst on the directorate, and the directors desire t» record their appreciation of his efforts. The statistics for the year are as follow, the figures for 1922 being given in. parentheses: Pounds of milk received, 55,461,436 (51,559,915); pounds of but-ter-fat, 2,215,909 (2,042,959); average test, 3.99 (3.96); total charges, including; repairs, depreciation, interest, etc., 3.78 d per lb (4.24 d). For making cheese 32,094,8841b ef milk were used, as 'against 46,468,6171b last year, the amount of cheese made being 3,367,535 lb as against 0,025,3011b. It took 9.531b I of milk to make one pound of cheese, { while 2.6391b of cheese was made iov each pound of butter-fat. The average test of the milk used for cheesemaking was 3.97 as against 3:90 last year. For buttermaking the figures--were': Pounds of milk used, 23.366.552 (3,091,398 V; pounds of butter-fat. 940,215 (148,557); pounds of butter made, including starter butter, 1,139,315 (193,575). For the year 508 tons 12cwf of . butter was made, against 86 tons Bcwt the previous year. It took 20.941b of milk to make one nound of butter (17.49), while the average test was 4.02 (4.80).
