CRUELTY TO CHILDREN.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I am sure'every mother's heart would be filled with indignation at«the light sentence passed on that brute ml human form who ill-treated that poor little child at Paekakariki last week. In Monday night's Star I read of three fiends who attacked a bed-ridden old! lady and left her for dead. In this case (which happened in the Old Country) the men were sentenced to ten years, including a flogging, which they ricMy deserved. In the case of the child it was just as much at the mercy of the inhuman brute who thrashed it as the poor old lady was, and he deserved a flogging and a longer of imprisonment. Such men are not fit to walk on God's earth. I have relieved my feelings somewhat by writing these few lines.—l am etc , „ JUSTICE. Hawera, 17th July. • j
