POULTRY ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING
' The annual meeting of the North Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was held at Palmerston North, l.on Vv Tednesday evening in the A. and J I*. committee rooms, the £>resident 3 Mr. J. Jarvis, i>residing. The tinnual reoort stated, inter alia, that with the year 1923 the N.I.P.P. j a net C. Association attained its major- ! ity and came of age. There had been j a noticeable increase in the number of j exhibits^ at the shows, rather more in j the utility than in the fancy classes. It was to be regretted that a large number of the older varieties of fowls had almost, and in -some instances quite, disappeared from the fancy classes. Formerly so much attention was not paid to the egg-producing bird, but there were hopeful signs that some attention was being paid by utility men to other birds than black and white. It was more than certain that, with careful - selection, most of them would come well to the fore and give satisfaction a& dual purpose birds. There appears to be a revival of interest in pigeons, evidenced by increased entries at shows and the desire of Pigeon Clubs to affiliate with the association. Requests for affiliation had l)een received from the Nupier, Hastings, Woodville, Masterton and Wellington Poultry Societies. The following resolution was unanimously carried by the council and sent as a reply to Wellington's appeal: "Having carefully considered the application of the Wellington P.P.C and C. Society for affiliation with this association, the council greatly regrets that whilst/ the agreement between the , North and South Islands and Cham- j pionships Association is in operation ; the application cannot be granted. But j should the Wellington Poultry Society j obtain a legal consent to withdraw from j its parent body and sd enable it to apply for affiliation with this association, or" should the parent body be legally dissolved, then no exception would betaken to the application." A similar reply was sent to each of the other applicants. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £60 3s 4d. —Both report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of «fficers resulted as follows: President, Mr. J. Jarvis; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. B. Robert and | E. H. Hall; council, Messrs. W. E. Griffiths, W. Inkoen, S. Johnson^ and , D. H. Whur; ■ auditor/ Mr. W. T. j Penny; secretary, Mr. C. Bryant; treasurer, Mr. H. Whitehead. Mr. Thomson objected to judgesjiidging at shows of unaffiliated societies, and gave notice of motion that the ! rule relating to exhibitors be added to , to give the association power over the judges. The same speaker gave notice of motion that the word "next" be deleted from rule 26 F and "the" substituted, to empower the council to deal with unforeseen occurrences. | Mr. J. N. Barrie, of Otane, com- ' plained of the treatment of two of his ; exhibits at the Hamilton Show, when , one of his Shield birds was not penned, ! and was not returned to him until a ! fortnight later, in a very bad condition, quite preventing it from being entered at the" Mnnawatii Show. j Others present gave instances of similar occurrences. j It was finally moved that the Hamil- ; ton Association be written to, asking! for an explanation of the bird arriving i late and being unpenned. j An amendment, that the Hamilton ' Association be refused affiliation next year, lapsed for want of a seconder, j the original motion being carried. j
