Kaponga then secured the ball, which, was passed to the outside left, who with a good kick sent the ball towards Aianaia's goal. Edwards tried to save with his head, but the ball glanced off. Budd,. trying to avoid a> corner, threw the ball out, . which was secured by Kaponga's out- ' aide right. He passed to Ereakly,. the ; latter scoring with an easy shot. Mr. George Mitchell again \ :;cted as leferee. i All Manaia players are asked to turn ' out for practice this, week-end. I ATJROA A AND B MATCH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) 1 The Auroa A and B "soccer" teams played the return match or tiie second rouad of the Julian Cup fixtures on the Local ground on Tuesday, which requited in a win for the A team by 6 goals to nil. The A team were without the services of Brown _ taking the neld with only ten men. The IS team had the services of Birchall and another, which considerably strengthened the team. The day was fine and calm, but the. ground a Dit greasy after so much rain. Hartley kicked off for the A team and sent out to Langlands, who was playing on the left wing. Securing well, he made a fine run up the line and centred. Hartley took and r after a little give and take play, beat the opjjosing backs and shot, registering the* tiret goal for A within live minutes of starting. This livened up the B team. Purvis, Birchall, and Hartley came v.ith a dash towards the other end, but through rather hard kicking their run was spoilt by Bradford clearing. J. Kilpatriek secured and. sent to Smart, who was playing a sterling game. Cameron cleared, and a way-went the E forwards again, led by Purvis. W. McCook relieved by putting well up. Armstrong secured and centred, and Smart, lying handy, made no mistake. A2, B nil. Shortly afterwa.rds Birchall was injured and had to leave the field. W. Bradford, as emergency, filled the vacancy at full back. The A forwards got going, and by a combined effort towards the B goal L. MeGarty registered the third goal for A.. From. the kick-off B's pressed, but the de-

fence was too strong. McCook secured and sent out to Langlands, who beat the opposing backs and sent to Hartley, and, after a combined effort in front of goal, sent in a stunner which gave JELoughton no chance. Half-time was called shortly after, A being then leading by four goals to nil. On changing ends I. Hartley kicked off for B's, who got going immediately, keeping the A backs on the- defensive. M. Bradford relieved. XL Muggeridge, who was playing well, brought the ball well up the wing. Kilpatriek intercepted and Cameron again secured and sent to Hartley, who had a shot at goal, with-

out result. From the goal kick the ball was sent to McCarty, who with a combined run with Lang-ands up the wing enabled !Langlands to pass to Smart, who again was waiting in his place for the ball and tapued it through. A 5, B nil. From the kick-off the B's livened up, and were pressing their opponents hard until Bradford relieved with a c-ood kick. From the throw-in Purvis secured and beating D. Roberts,

NOTES.

Beebe plays a gieat, j^ame between the sticks, jJiju-in ti.e event o£ ti isrown fehieid match Miould command wjpreseiitative lionmas us a 'iaran-akv goali keeper. j Auroa Thursday are now three points I ahead of Haw-era in the Julian. Chip I competition. Their win over Hawera ! Wednesday did not come as a surprise, ias the local dub were without the seri vices of Pooch, Butler, Beebe, Brown, iand several other good players. ! Kaponga will prove to be Havrera's •' toughest proposition, as they are k-eep-i ing in training, and doing o-reat pro- ; gress in combination team work—not | individual work. Manaia will give Hawera Wednesday tx good game next Wednesday,' and I would not be surprised to see two pohvts going with the green and white stripes. ! iriawera have been very unlucky with skippers. Snowy McGirr was captured by a Wellington team two years ago. Now Tom Howarth has gone north to play for the Brotherhood (Auckland) y where he scored the only goal tor his team in- his first mate]). Will Bill Pooch be captured next? Let's hope not. Jock Ramsay (Hawera's dashing outside right) is without a douht on/ of the finest players in his position ifu the country, and 1 would like to see him ' nominated to the N.Z.F.A., should the, Chinese tour eventuate. I Hawera are looking forward to the' return match with Anroa,, when they intend turning the tables. Stratford won the. protest they lodged with the T.F.A. in "regard to the Ha- ; wera-Stratford match, played at Ha-' wera a few weeks ago. A replay has been arranged for July 27. Pooch (Hawera) and Coombridge (Stratford) would make a good pair of backs in r&n. matches. Eight Halves. — Worthington (New Plymouth) is regarded as one of the fhiest halves iv Taianaki to-day, and with Ramsay (Hawera) and, say, Thompson (Stratford) in front, w\;M make lovely right wings. Campbell is in the' right position when he is placed at outside left. Hawera have some good juniors coming on: Skjellerup, Horsburgh, Hart, Higgs, Tippett and J. Davies all play well. As all of these players, with the exception of the last, played against Auroa T when Hawera were beaten, it gives good credit to the chib in putting ■up as good a showing as they did. , Higgs and Tippett had never played th«

' An amusing incident is reported from the match between the Auroa teams last Tuesday, when from a long kick by a player the ball went out over the fence on to the road, and landed in the cab of a passing lorry. The driver nulled up, and handed the stray ball back to the field oi play.-
