IMPROVEMENT OF SERVICES

LONDON, Jan. 4. The Dublin Government is taking over the Great South-Western railway, making good the difference between the receipts and expenses. The cost to the taxpayer will be approximately £12,000 weekly. The Government recommends three other companies which are sounder financially to come to a speedy agreement with the unions.

The Government is considering th« position of the smaller companies, and if they a-re unable to carry on themselves tbev will be taken over and restricted services run.

The Rathmines Urban Council, the majority of the members of which ax-e Protestant Unionists, adopted, after a resolution, calling; for an immediate truce.—United Service.
