NEWS FROM SMYRNA.
ISeceived Oct. 11.35 a.m CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct. 27. The news from Smyrna continues unsatisfactory. The Nationalists refuse
to recognise the capitulations and are busily expelling the remaining Greeks and Armenians. Imported goods to Greek or Armenian consignees have been seized and a heavy-taxation oh foreigners is threatened " i The dock labourers are demanding a minimum of £1 for a 7% hours day. The captain of a foreign merchantman, on pointing ont that the polic^ would drive out European- merchants, received the startling reply from a high official: 'That is what we want.'' Similar conditions prevail in Black Sea ports, where it is reliably reported a Frenchman was imprisoned and bastinadoed for importing a few bottles of wine into dry Kemalistan. The Allied' High Commissioners protested strongly against the^ abolition of capitulations as well as the decision not to recognise the financial obligations-of the Con- . stantinople Government.—Times.
