THE SCAFFOLDING REGULATIONS

WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. A deputation representing the New Zealand Federation of Master Painters, • Decorators, aiid Signwriters waited upon the Minister for Labour to-day, and protested against the decision to . enforce strictly the present scaffolding j regulations, more particularly in the ; direction of requiring all scaffolding , over 10 feet high be notified, and that on scaffolding over 10 feet 18-inch planks should be used, and not 12-inch planks. After the scaffolding accident at Auckland, which resulted in the ; death «rf four men, he gave instruc- \ tiong thai the whole matter of th* i regulations and their enforcement j should be looked into, and later a chief inspector was appointed. That officer i had gone rouiid the country, and after ;] a thorough investigation had reported that the only thing to do was to insisT ■ npon the enforcement of the regulations.
