SERIOUS FIRE
THREE SHOPS AFFECTED;
(BY TELEGP-APII —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ' HASTINGS, April 29. An early morning fire broke out iv James MacLaughlin's fruit shop, Here- \ tauiiga street, wliich was completely 1 gutted. The fire spread through the buildings to Joseph's restaurant on one side and Dunkley's (tailor) on the other. The restaurant and contents were practically destroyed, and Dunkley's shop was badly damaged and the stock ruined. The insurances are: MacLaughlin, £350 in the Australian Alliance; Duiiklcy, £600 in the British Traders; and Joseph, £325 in the Yorkshire. Mr C. Hughes, the owner of the buildings, is covered in the Guardian office, but the amount is not ascertainable.
