CONTROLS CARRIED AWAY
(Received Feb. 23, 8.5 a.m.)
NEW YORK, Feb. 21
The accident to the Roma occurred when the vertical controls earned away, and the airship crashed downward and struck" a network of highly charged electric wires, causing a deatening roar as the ship exploded. When the Roma collapsed and fell nose first the spectators saw two men jump from the airship about 200 ft in the air.
It is announced that the flight was the first trial since the installation of Liberty motors in place of the Italian engines with which the ship was originally equipped. The Italian motors caused trouble and the Liberty motors replaced them. •
