PLUNKET SOCIETY

Tho committee of the above society held their usual monthly meeting on Tuesday, 13th inst., at tho Plunket Rooms ip. High Street. There were present: Mesdani.s C. 11. Martin (in the chair), Haden. Northover. Thorpe, O'Hagan, Weir (senr.), Campbell, Weir (junr.), Smalley, Hosking, Ware, and Drayton (secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdumes Carncross, Ward, and Bridger. I It was decided to hold a social afternoon on Wednesday, September 28, 'during which Nurse Dix will give a short address to Plunket mothers, to be followed by afternoon tea. If the. weather is suitable a photograph will be taken of Plunket mothers and babies. v The nurse's report was read and favourably commented upon: Number of babies on the books 140, new cases 8 nurse's visits to homes 33, adults* visits to rooms 75, babies' visits to rooms 73.

Several accounts wero passed for payment. One new member was enrolled (Mrs. Smith, of Hunter Road;. The treasurer (Mrs. "Weir, junr.) reported having received 5s subscription from Mrs. Carman. This society is in great need of new members, as the expenses of the Eltham branch amount to over 30s per week.

OLD TIMERS' FOOTBALL

Tho treasurer (Mr., T. King) has handed Mr. J. H. Sheat, secretary of. tho Eltham School Committee, £17 13s as the result of the match played in aid of the school sports. .The takings were £20 2s. donation by Mr. J. Dunn 10s—total. £20 12s. The expenses amounted to £2 19s. Tho football committee desires to think tho following gentlemen who so kindly gave their services free of charge, thus helping the boys _and girlss of the school in raising" funds for games of various kinds: Dr. Cooper, for services'to tho players who were hurt (two); Messrs W.*S. Heye's and E Evoriss, for collecting at the gates; and M. J. Dunn, fpr donation of 10s. The match in every way proved a success, and was greatly enjoyed both by players aad spectators

TENNIS CLUB

A special meeting: of the Tennis Club Committee was held on Monday evening to consider the advisability of holding a concert in aid of the club's funds. It was decided to hold a concert .in the Eltham Town Hall on October 5 next. The committee seem to be a real live body, and no doubt, under the circumstances, the concert will be more than a success. ■ •

ELTHAM DAIRY COMPANY

The town on Tuesday last was well represented by all the leading buyers in the butter world. The directors decided to divide the season's output, each getting half shares —Messrs Lonsdale and C^W.S. Companies,. Ltd.. on open consignment.

CRICKET CLUB

The annual meeting was held in the C.E.M.S. Rooms last night at 8 o'clock.

Mr. G. W. Bennett presided over a large attendance. •The report and balance sheet were read by the secretary, Mr. A. O. Hemingway. Mr. G. W. Bennett moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet.— Seconded by Mr. Bain and carried. .-':*

A letter was received from the secretary kof the South Taranaki Cricket Association asking; whether it. is-not possible to inaugurate a junior competition and if the Eltham Club is favourable to send delegates to a meeting in Hawera on the 15th.—Decided that Messrs Stewart, Bain, and Little attend the meeting. i

The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr, O. J^ Hawken, M.P*; vice-presidents, Messrs G. W. Bennett, J. B. Dunn, J. L. Weir. M. McGarry, C. A. WiiKinson. C. N. Tapiin, G. A. Hayden, E. H. Thomas', T. B. Crump and G. W. Tayler; captain, A. A. Stewart^ vice-captawi, G. Little. Seoretary and treasurer. —Proposed by Mr; Little and seconded by Mr. Bennett that Mr. L. A. Stratford be appointed secretary and treasurer.—Carried. Committee, Messrs Bain; Marsh, Grenfell, R. Senior, Hemingway; selection' pommittee, Captain vice-captain, and!Mr. K. B. Bain; ground committee Messrs Grenfell, Little, and Marsh. . j • It was decided that Messrs Bennett and Stewart wait 4>n* 'the Bo.bugh Council with regard to making a working arrangement for wickets and keeping the ground in order. lt was decided-that the subscriptions be as follows: Seniors £1 Is. juniors under 18 years 10s 6d, honorary members ss.

The following new members were proposed . L. A. Stratford, Millar Hughes Primmer, W. Little, Bush, 'Free, C. Holland, Ricketts, Hemingway, J. Robins, J. Fahey (honorary). It was decided to open the club on the 29th inst with' a match to be arranged.

Delegates to South Taranaki Cricket Association: Messrs Stewart and Bain. The two best boys in the school team are to be allowed free membership, and Mr. Bicheno was selected to nominate the boys. -

The prospects for the coming season in spite of the mixed half-holiday/ appear to be very encouraging Plenty of new members are coming forward, and if the club is able to come v> a suitable arrangement with the B-rough Council s reserve committee the ground would be in better order than last .tar There is little doubt that the Taumata Park is a ground which, with little expense, could be made second to none in TaTanaki.
