MALE CHOIR CONCERT
The concert arranged by the Male Choir in connection with the visit of Mr. Ernest Drake and Mr. E. Thomas was robbed of a great deal of interest because, acting under medical orders, Mr. Drake was quite unaT>le to sing. ,This announcement was made by the Mayor (Mr. E. Dbcon, M,P.) at the opening of the concert, and also the fact that Mr. Drake would come up for the next male choir concert, when they will give a performance of "The Desert. 1' Mr. Thomas was in great voice and added two extra concert numbers. He sang "The Garden of Allah," "Hybrias the Cretan," and "Nirvana,'' and was accorded a great reception, being given a double encore on each occasion. At short notice Mrs. J. Goodson kindly helped the choir and sang two songs, "Star of Eve 7' and "Orpheus with" His Lute." - She was in fine voice and pleased her listeners so much that she was recalled on each occasion. Mr. H. Ackroyd also sang two songs and met with a very enthusiastic reception. He sang in capital style and was encored for both. With Mr. Thomas... he sang the great duet, "Watchman! .; What of the Night?" They were most successful and were enthusiastically encored. Three items were given by the Male Ghoir, under Mr. Ackroyd, one being accompanied. In all they did very well, but the unaccompanied part song was particularly Well sung." The concert was much enjoyed by all present.
