We are informed that Airs Rene Harrison, of the Hunter road, Lowgarth, and formerly a resident of Hawera, has composed two songs which Jiave been accepted and published in America, the music being by two leading American musicians, Mr George Graff, composer of the music of "Till tho Sands of the Desert," and Mr Leo Freldmari, who hag composed several well-known airs. Mrs Harrison's friends will be pleased to hear of her success.
Ait old resident of Wangnnui passed away on Sunday eVening in the person of Miss Susan Stoker Miller, who was born in Kent, England, in 1839, and came out to New Zealand some fifty years ago to join her'sister, the late Mr.s C. Rann, of Eastown.
A Wellington message states that it is not considered probable that the Hon. Q. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour and Mines, will be sufficiently recovers in health to take his place in the House when Parliament meets in ten days' time. He has been carrying on Ministerial duties while in hospital, but it will be necessary for someone else to take charge of h's work when Parliament is in session. At present the Hon. Do.whie Stewart fe taking work connected with Labour which Hon. Anderson was unable to deal with, and Hon. Nosworthy is handling Mines matters. It- is expected that this arrangement will be continued until Mr. Massey's return.
Among the successful candidates at the recent Trinity College of Music examination., held at Stratford by Mr Myerscough, were Frances Innes (intermediate division) and Eileen Clarke (first steps). Both are pupils of Miss Pryce, L.T.C.L., of Mahoe
