TENNIS AND CROQUET,

HAWERA CLUB'S MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Hawera Tennis and Croquet Club was held on Monday afternoon in the Borough Chambers, Mr. H. D. Caplen (president) being in the chair and about 22 members being present. - The secretary read_the annual report and balance sheet. The report stated: The past year has been one of the best, from a player's point of view that the club has had for a long time play having been ver ? keen, both in tennis and croquet. In the croquet, ; Mrs. Jarvie upheld the honour of the dub by annexing the Wellington. Provincial Championship and was runner-un in the open chaml pionehip at the, same meeting. Ther© was no club championship wet year.

We have also specially to mention the very liberal gift of Air. Collins in presenting the tennis net standards for the new courts. This will bo the subject of a subsequent motion. The committee have gone iuto the question of laying down I'urthor lawns, and owing to the present state of our finances and other reasons it has been decided to defer the matter.

Mr. H. D. Caplon proposed and Mr. E, G. Foden seconded that the report and balance sheet, as road, be adopted. —Carried.

The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. Leece; vice-presidents, Air. Douglas and Mrs. Morris; secretary, Air. N. Caplen; treasurer. Air. H. G. Brodie; committee. Aleasrs H. 1). Caplen and Collins, Alesdames Brodie and Bennett, Dr. Young; auditor. Mr. D. L. Smith; delegate, Afr. N. Bnlharry; ground committee, Atessrs Leece arid N. Caplen; match committee, Afessrs E. G. Foden and Whitelaw; tea committee, Afesdames Callaphan. J. E. Campbell. ! Wyllie, Smith, Aliases P. Young and j Burgess. A vote of thanks was nassed to Afr. Collins for presenting the standards. Carried by acclamation.

The opening day was left in the hands of the ground committee. Air. H. ». Caplen offered £2 2s for senior and junior tourney and £1 Is for croquet. A vote of thanks to the outgoing officers and chair concluded the meeting.
