KAKARAMEA.

♦—— (From Our Own Correspondent-) The Kakaramea Debating Society held their weekly meeting on stn inst., when ffie motion for debate was: "That party government is conducive neither to progressive legislation nor to effective administration." Mr F. Tarrant presided. Mr Wards 6poke in support of the motion, and was opposed by Mr E. Rogers. Mrs Crosbie was seconder for the affirmative, and Mr Hall for the negative. At the close of the debate a motion in favour of party government was carried. A friendly debate with Hawera Debating Society is arranged for 19th iri&t. at Kakaramea, and is looked forward to with interest. The subject for debate is the nationalisation of our industries, and it is proposed to deal principally with banks, coal mining, shipping, and- hydro-electricity. Hawera will speak on the affirmative and Kakaramea on the negative.
