PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

MESSRS A. AND J. O'DONNELL'S ANNUAL SALE. We have to acknowledge an advance cooy of Messr? A. and J. O'Donnell's catalogue their annual sa?e of pedigree Jersey heifers, to be held, in Hawera, %on August 30. The catalogue is probably the best yet published in this district, ; ticularly for the reason that the pedigrees, and all essential information, is so fully set out, the pedigrees in all instances going back to the third generation. Furthermore, intending purchasers will, in all case&,-15e able to see . at a glance the performances and re- ' cords of the near ancestors of the animals to be sold. Jersey breeders are already familiar with Messrs O'Donnell Bros. Rosy Creek stock; they know from past experience •that the. quality is there, and purchaser* at previous sales have been more- than pleased with the way the animals have turned out. For example, there was the heifer "Goneril," sold at last year's sale. She is this year's leading 2-year-old, under test with 4121bs butter-fat on for seven months. This year, her sister, Caresse of Rosy Creek (Belvedere Sun Prince —Caresse) will be sold. She gives every promise oj: making a splendid cow, and ab-eady has wonderful udder development. Grey Gown of Rosy Creek, cut of a full sister to Goneril, is another heifer that promises well. She is by Bilberry's Twylish, dam Grey Gown (full sister to Goneril). ' ' ■ Rosy Creek Song is a grand-daughter of Rainbow and daughter of Spring Song, who made 5501bs fat under C.O.R. test. Rainbow sired Peaceful (6351bs fat) and Rainbow's Gleam ' (6081bs). Corinne of Rosy Creek, Lady Celia. Celia of Rosy Creek, and also grand-daughters of Rainbow. Want of space permits further detailed reference to individual heifers to be offered ;■ it is sufficient to say that they are all a very fine well-bred lot. A reference to the catalogue will show that the K.C.B. blood runs almost right through on one side or the other. A number were sired by Belvedere Sun Prince (K.C.B. —Sunflower), some by J Rainbow's King (Rainbow —Bilberry I 10th). Rainbow was out of Genoa Daisy, dam of Sultan's Daisy, with the ! world's record of 9681bs of fat, and j others by Bilberry's Twylish—Gould's Bilberry S—K.C.B. A very important point for prostive buyers is the fact that 22 of the j 28 heifers to be offered have been pasturing with the pedigree bull "Caius." A reference to his breeding will show j that he is a very highly bred bull that , should impress great dairying qualities in his progeny. His sire was Belvedere i bun Prince, who was by K.C.B.—Sunj flower sth, and nothing further need be I said to breeders on that score. His dam i Xfl £enoa Daisy 5 who was dam of j. O Sullivan's record butter-fat cow, Sul- ; tans Daisy. The remaining heifers were pastured with Rosy Creek Merry Prince (Belvedere Sun Prince—Rosy Creek Merry Fairy). ! ' It-may just be mentioned that the ! lleit?r s.to be offered are all in excellent ; condition, and have been well cared for It will be seen when they come into the ring that they possess good body de- , yelopment and every indication of mak- | ing splendid dairy cows. Already sevi a . ar*show ™2, signs of springing, o? oZ\ *f?° c?«» «»ey give indications ot capital udder development, and all appear to be'very W eU tested. Altogether this year rs croo of heifers ?^]f ff eil a PPearances > certainly are well ahead of anything yet offered by j strong favour with breeders. !
