SOCCER FOOTBALL.
It is hoped that the season proper for the "soccer" club will soon be opening. A match was played last I Saturday against the Defence Depart- \ ment, but although the cadets tried. pluckily, the majority of them will need ; plenty of practise and instruction to learn the fine points of the game. The Haw era team also require coaching before they really settle down as agood combination side. The forwards particularly are at fault, as too much individual play goes on and not enough short passing. It is good to know that the club have received the services of an old "soccer" player as coach; he will be a big asset to the team. | It is interesting to note how the game is finding favour throughout' New | Zealand, especially in Wellington; ' there are fourteen senior teams in the city alone. j The huge crowd at the final tie in ' England is by no means a record, as at the final tie in 1913 110,000 people saw < Aston Villa defeat Sunderland,. which goes "to show the great popularity of "soccer" with the people of Britain.
