THE NORMANBY WAR MEMORIAL.

To the Editor.

Sir. —In reply to your correspondent* on the above subject1 which appeared jnthe Star on Monday, 28th inst", I wish. to say 1 am a ratepayer and. have given,-. ' my (iuota to the memorial fund.. 1 also* gave frequently to the war. fund, andi later I have taken un war loans,, and I . have as much, right to sneak, in thatJ meeting as any* man iri Normanby,. and. I* resent being interrupted. Secondly,: re the petition which contained 36* names, was only a aetitibn: to call a. public meeting. There was another^petition containing about twice. tnHt. number, and asking that the memorial be^ f erected in the Park and not: at the-; school, and f may say quite a number* of people who did not: sign, this petition expressed themselves strongly against the'memorial being placed n.t, .„.- the school, in fact nearly the*whole o\/ Normanby. But our senat*ors: entirelyignored this petition, andx wiien I ques— tioned them they gav.e no answer. II can only compare our senators with theheathen gods—eyes they have, but theysee not; ears they have, but they hearnot. Neither do they understand.. Thirdly, the Park is very, suitable. It • is near the heart of the village and therailway stat;on, and well sKettered, ancT - at the iuction of' tour poads., A>nd if" the memorial was erected pear- the one* that is there already it would be an. oi'nament. to the township, and an attraction to picni,c parties. But our- ? senators are set in Build'ng an; ugly thing at the school. As to the bug--bear about the cost of changing thei site from the school to the Park, it ianonsense: ,the money could lie easilyraised and the work done if they would* set about it in earnest. —I am, etc., R. BURGON.
