Prices for dry skins advanced Id per lb and salted Is each as against the rates ruling at last sale. Sound ox and cow hides appreciated by |d per lb, super calf by 2d. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., Wellington, report: For Friday's sale we submitted a catalogue of 3800 sheepskins and 1500 hides and calfskins to a good attendance of buyers. Better competition prevailed, and prices showed an appreciation in dry skins of from |d to Id over last sale's rates. Salted skins sold at par to an advance ef 6d per skin, this being consistent with the better length of wool now coming on the skins. We sub- ■ netted some good lines of hides, which I elicited free competition, prices ruling j from par to a slight advance in cow hides, while ox hides advanced to the extent of id to fd over last sale's alues. There was also a better demand for the inferior and damaged sorts at slightly enhanced prices. Calfskins showed ap advance of 3d on the best* lots. Tallow was again easier, with little enquiry.
