Owing to the—heavy incroa^es in the cost of materials and labour during the ; po^t twelve months, Mr Toogoodj consulting engineer to the Town Board, reports that the proposed hydro electric schome is. now estimated to cost £12,P00 } as against £7000 in August^ 1919. He suggests that.the scheme should be enlarged so as to provide power and lighting for a radius of six miles, and that a power board be formed to take no the proposal. The Town Board have decided to take steps to have a Power Bpard established, *and in the mep.n----+-"ivm to expend tT^e money raised, viz., £7000, in erection of weir tunnel, etc. The cement for the work is already on hand, and an early start .is expected. A supervisor has been appointed for the erection of the we'V, • and tenders„ are to be called at an eariy date for "the tunnelling. HORTICULTURAL SHOW. The Horticultural Society are leaving no stone unturned to make the forthi coming autumn show ecliose its predecessors.
