EGMONT RACING CLUB

SUMMER MEETING—SECOND DAY

I The Egmont Itacing Club's summer meeting was concluded yesterday in glorious /weather. An immense "welldressed crowd attended, and the gate showed an increase on last year's figures. All the official s—both paid and honorary—carried out their various duties with promptitude and correctness. The secretary (Mr V. BY Stratton) and his staff had everything right up to the mark , and as a result of this all the events were got off right on time, and everything went without the slightest hitch. In this respect it can be safely said that the meeting has been one of the best held by the club, and has added to the club's -well-merit-ed popularity. In all the events, with the exception of the Stakes, good fields faced the barrier, and some exciting finishes were the order of the day, : v I

An enquiry was held under Part XXV.. clause 1. Rules of Racing, regarding the Tuning of Vespucci in the Hawera Stakes. Mason; the trainer, is reported to have said that 'as Vespucci was sore he instructed the jockey not to push him. The following motion was passed by- the stewards-. "That the commitee are greatly dissatisfied with the instructions given by Mason (trainer) and also the jockey's handling of the horse."

Messrs Dustins Ltd. again put on an excellent lunch, and the Hawera Citizens' Band rendered a programme or good music during the day. /The sum of £46,366 was handled by the totalisator, .which, ,with £44,659 on the first day, made a total of £91,025. On the first day there -was practically no speculation on the Egmont Stakes, and, the totalisator -was not opened for 'the* Hawera Stakes yesterday. It is safe to say that the totalisator retiiriy* were effeqted to^the extent of about £10,000 by these circumstances. The following are the remaining results of the rac- : inß;-i ', •..•.'.-.■''•■'
