BAND RECITAL. Taking advantage of the fine weather prevailing on Sunday, a large number of people visited the beach The Federal Band, under Bandmaster Humphries, rendered a splendid musical programme, which was highly appreciated. SCHOOL CRICKET. ! On Saturday the" Kaponga school ■cricket team visited Opunake, and Played a match, with the local team. The visitors secured an eas y \ :C----tory. ? " RETURNED SOLDI Ei?S.* At a meeting of the local bvsnch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held recently Mr J. S. Tosland tendered his resignation as secretary. Eulogistic ieferenee was made to the good wors clone for the Association by Mr Tosland. Mr P. Peat was appointed secretary. The question of establishing a soldiers' cub was discussed. It was decided to hold a further meeting to go into details. POLICE COURT.At the local Courthouse on Weinesday, W. H. and H. A. James appeared before Messrs J. M. Hickey and M. O Brien, J.P.s, each on a charge of wiltuily breaking two r>late pUss windows on the ni«ht of November 7th Detective-Sergeant Coohey conducted the case for the police, and Mr Croker appeared on behalf of both accused, Ihe two charges were taken together. Lengthy evidence was given for the prosecution, which occupied about five hours. W. H.. James was acquitted and H. A. James was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Com* at New Plymouth.
