HIDE AND SKIN SALES
Newton King., Ltd., reports: Tve submitted a catalogue of 1051 hides, 6186 calfskins, 3434 sheepskins, and 124 tins of tallow. This was the first saleof sheepskins since the commandeer, and prices were disappointing, and cbmnared to that period were from 10s to 12s each lower. Dry pelts and damaged skins realised very low prices. The market for hides showed a -lower range of values, and light-weight cow and ox are difficult to quit. Heavy and stout ox were eagerly sought after, and brought good prices. Slippy and damaged hides were entirely neglected, and sold at exceedingly low prices. Calfskins also showed a sharp decline, and tallow likewise. The hide and skin market is in a stagnant position over the whole world, with small chance of recovery in the near future. The range of prices was as under: Sheepskins—Good crossbred ,sid, coarse 4|d, short to half wools l§d to 3d, lambs 2*d to 3Jd, dead and damaged Id to 2d, salted 2s to 5s 3d, pelts 6d to Is 9d, lambs Is 3d to Is 6d. Hides—Stout ox 12d_to•12$d, heavy lid to lljd, medium 9Jd to lOd, light 6£d to--7Jd, cut 42d to 6£d, cow (heavy) 6d to 7d, light 6d to 6-|d, cut 4£d, farmer's cow 4d to 6d, muddy 2d, cut and slippy id, yearlings 4d to 7d, calf 61b and over 7d to ll|d, 51b and under lOd to llfd, cut 4|d to s|d, cut and slippy 3|d to o|d, dry 3d to 6d each, slinks 4d to 8d each, horse Is to 6s.
