a* mx. „ . TIMARU, Oct. 14. T i J „ Magistrate's Court to-day, John Talhen pleaded guilty to a charge of making a book at the recent Cferaldine races. He was not a regu*B? ..bookmaker, and acted quite openly. A^tnis was the first prosecution under the Act of this session, which came into force on August 28, Mr Mosely, fc.M., pointing out that the penalty was a fine up to £500 or three years' imprisonment, fined him £15 and £3 costs.
