ALICE PARKINSON CASE
PROPOSED GOVERNMENT

WELLINGTON June 16
Alice Parkinson, who some five years ago was sentenced to life imprison*ment for manslaughter at Napier, has again been receiving the consideraton of .the Government. From time to time numerous petitions and resolutions have been presented to the Government asking for the circumsatnces of the prisoner's case to be considered with a view to her release being granted.
The Minister of Justice stated today that Cabinet had decided upon the introduction of legislation which would allow of Parkinson's case and similar cases to be placed undeT the jurisdiction of the Prisons Board. Should Parliament pass the legislation proposed, it would enable the case to /be considered by the Prisons Board, which will have the power to make a recommendation to the Governor*Generaf for the release upon probation of prisoners situated as Parkinson is, if the .board deems such action advisable.
