EXTREME UNIONISM'S DEMANDS
SUGGESTIONS TO COMBAT THEM
(Received Aug. 25, 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 23. Lord Wymbury, in letters to the Times, closely examines the, tendencies *>£ advanced unionism, and refers to its increasing power, repeated demands. and political pressure. He suggests th« immediate formation of a permanent national freedom force, nou-politieal, >tand drawn from all classes, and prepared to maintain the indispensable services when strikers, representing perhaps a twentieth of the population, threaten, a stoppage in order to impose economically ruinous terms. The Times believes that tho people are getting very weary of the interminable, demands and threats, and are likely to heartily agree with Lord Wrenbury, but- questions the opportuneness «£ immediate action, which, is liable to be construed as a challenge to unionism. Moderate unionists are now apparently I "reasserting themselves, and should be i given a chance of stabilising the position.
