At Umahu, on Saturday morning, a man named Alfred Powdrell, who had been acting m a strange manner lately, blew off the top of his head with a shot gun. As the' result of complaints received concerning Powdrell's behaviour, the natives being afraid that lie would shoot somebody, Constable Murray went out, and when within 30 yards of deceased the latter put his head over the muzzle of a gun, which had been standing near by, and pulled the trigger with a stick," death being instantaneous.
