INQUEST
♦—— Mr J. S. L. Hewitt, S.M. A held an inquest yesterday afternoon" touching | th© death of Richard Harris, who was \ killed in a motor accident on th c Waihi road, near the Hawera Racecoursei. Constable Nuttall deposed as to the marks of the. Wheel of the car on and off the asphajt. He had seen the car since the accident, and found the steering gear to fee in good order. Dr Buist, in his evidence, stated that when he arrived at the scene of the accident he found the deceased lying on his face, quite dead. In his opinion the deceased died of fracture of the skull due to violent contact with the ground. I Mrs Andresen deposed that about one I o'clock deceased passed her in his motor lorry, driving to town. He did not appear to be driving fast. The car was j running steadily and straight; there < was another ahead, which deceased +ried to pass. She noticed deceased's car turn off the asphalt, then it suddenly took a zig-zag course, turned round, and overturned, with its nose facing Normanby. The deceased never passed the car in front of him. This car stopped and the occupants went to the assistance of the deceased. Witness, after securing assistance, went to the deceased, who was alive, but unconscious. He died shortly after arrival of witness. The Coroner returned a verdict m accordance with the medical testimony. There was nothing to show how the accident occurred.
