PEACE CELEBRATIONS
GOVERNMENT DECISION
The Town Clerk has received the following advice from the Hon. G. W v Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, regarding peace celebrations: "With reference to the question of the desirability of sufficient notice being given to local bodies as to the actual days on which peace celebrations are to be held, | I have now to inform you that Cabinet has decided that the ' celebrations will take plac& on the second Sunday, Monday and Tuesday after the receipt in tho Dominion of the official announcement of preliminary peace having been signed. I have at the same time to state for your information that in the event of the Imperial Government deciding that the celebrations should not be held until the signing of the official peace, or on some other dates than those above mentioned, the Government will reconsider the matter, and if a change is determined on in the dates for the celebrations in New Zealand, due notification will be given.
